Reconnecting Piedmont — A Park Plan

This plan will be a vision for how a more connected, resilient, and green future for the community can be a way forward after our post-industrial decline. It will honor and preserve our unique cultural and historical past by creating a park that promotes our community identity and a more sustainable socio-economic future.

FAQs

  • Yes and no. The plan completed by Blake Sanders was a first step. This new plan will be a detailed landscape plan for the site and provides a unique opportunity for the community to dream big and make their voices heard.

  • Yes, there are some private owners. It is important to remember that property owners change, property boundaries change, and that this is a conceptual plan for a potential park (AKA a dream).

  • That is somewhat subjective. Parks and natural landscapes boost property values up to 20%. When thinking about the future of our community, property values are not the top consideration. We value the heath and wellbeing of our community as well as preserving our unique cultural and historic identity above all else and a park is most aligned with those values. • This is a conceptual plan that is an option for the future. We have a unique opportunity to partner with a Master of Landscape Architecture student at Clemson University to design a dream scenario for the community. Piedmont has not had safe or convenient permanent public access to the river in way too long. We think it is time to change that.
